Frequently Asked Questions

Technical Product Management Interview Process

Product Manager interviews typically involve tackling tough Product Manager interview questions in the product, design, and leadership-related concepts. The PM interview process is conducted in mainly three phases:
  • Initial recruiter screen – A few basic behavioral questions and those that cover basic expectations from the role.
  • Technical PM phone screen: 1-2 design questions and open-ended questions that require you to ask clarifying questions.
  • On-site interview: The on-site interview consists of multiple rounds that test your knowledge of core Product Manager areas.

What to Expect at Technical Product Manager Interviews

1

The Initial Recruiter Screen
This is an informal telephonic round where recruiters try and understand your technical skills and experience to see if you’re the right fit for the role. You’re asked basic questions about your interest in the role, compensation expectations, and past organizational experience.

2

The Technical Screen
In this round, you can expect a few basic questions on product sense, execution, planning, risk management, and estimation. Your ability to articulate and ask the right clarifying questions will set you apart from the rest of the competition. If your role involves managing and guiding a team of software engineers, you can also be asked a few coding questions.

3

The On-site interview
On-site interviews typically consist of multiple rounds – about 4-5 rounds where various aspects of your product and technical knowledge are evaluated. At the on-site, you can expect 1-2 rounds on product sense and execution, 1-2 systems (Scalable) design rounds, 1-2 rounds on metrics and estimation, and 1 behavioral/leadership interview.
